Mechanical Bee

This mechanical bee automaton was created over the course of seven weeks in the fall semester of the 2021-2022 academic year by Sebastian Krausz, Gaetan Douglas, Michael Horan, Jack Kelly, and Keanan Sagarino.

It is laser cut entirely from a single 8*10 piece of birch wood that is 1/8th of an inch thick. Most of the parts are designed from scratch. When the crank is turned back and forth, cams push the wings up and down, and a pulley rotates a wooden stinger piece on the back.
